Patti and I

Well my friends it has been a busy season. From visiting family to

working on various projects. We have been working on finishing things we started; sweater, spinning samples for fiber study, and Patti knitting lace shawls. I have been working on my tomten jacket and spinning up the Finnish landrace fleece. It is a beautiful creamy white.I hope to have it done soon for Fiber fest. ( gvhg.org ).

We hope to see you all there. We are planning our fall fun things to do. Finger lakes Fiber Fest is first on our list of things to do. I hope to

do a couple of great wheel demos and get to enjoy the fest. My wife will be enjoying the fest this year for the first time. Next will be our trip to Rhinebeck fiber fest.

We really enjoy the time there. I really enjoy the animals and getting new fiber. Its a great time to experiment with spinning wheels. The guild has our bi-yearly retreat at Stella Maris and our

Christmas fiber exchange. That is a blast to participate in... We hope to fit a vac in there too.

Here are the spun samples. Each sample is spun

long draw. Although the guard hairs were spun from the locks. The down fiber was spun from

hand carded roll logs. The original fiber before

flick carded was spun from hand carded roll

logs. The down fiber is much softer. The down and guard hairs spun together definitely made the Yarn sample softer than spinning the guard hairs apart. There was a certain amt of luster to

the guard hairs.

This is a sample of natural black ( Racka Sheep )

I was able to get a sample from Namaste Farms

in California it is beautiful black. I washed the

sample in All free and clear laundry det. It was

prepared three ways I spun a sample with the

fleece together hand carded, then flick carded.

The picture demonstrated the staple length of the

fiber. The guard hairs are the middle and the down is to right. Each sample was spun separately.

Racka Sheep have their origins in Hungry with long upright spiral ornimental horns.
